The Value of a Book Review

I used to think that book reviews were only good enough to drive sales. I would drive myself mad with worry trying to figure out why people weren’t reviewing my books. Then some one would and I would drive myself mad trying to understand what the reader meant in their commentary, especially when the review was negative.

Many websites will tell you that when it comes to selling books reviews are worth their weight in gold and I agree to an extent. Let’s face it, who wants to buy an untested product? However, this morning I have come to the conclusion that the true value in a book review is the impact it has on me as a writer.

Reviews are a means of communication with my readers. They allow me to determine the needs and expectations of my growing fan base and allow me as an author to share my voice with those who want to hear it most. I find myself increasingly motivated to write and deliver stories that will delight and excite my audience and the energy I get from the feedback drives me to keep writing. Anything that keeps me writing is good thing.

So to all my readers out there, feel free to let me know how you feel about my stories. Good or bad your few moments of sharing has lasting impact.
